Holistic Chiropractic Care
for Optimal Health

WHAT IS CHIROPRACTIC CARE?
Chiropractors use manual manipulations and other proven modalities to safely, naturally, and effectively help your body heal itself and keep it in prime condition.

Doctors of chiropractic study and treat the mechanical issues within the musculoskeletal system, particularly the spine. Many physical ailments originate around the spine, such as headaches, neck pain, back pain, and nerve issues (numbness and tingling). When the spinal segments become dysfunctional (restricted, irritated, inflamed) physical problems can arise.

WHAT CAUSES SPINAL PROBLEMS?
Your spine may become dysfunctional for several reasons. Sometimes, chemical trauma from poor nutrition or drugs may be to blame. Emotional trauma, including stress, is sometimes the culprit. Not surprisingly, physical stress due to an injury, poor posture, sitting too long in front of a computer, and other factors may be behind the issue. Dr. Davenport will determine the cause of your spinal problems and take the necessary steps to correct it.

WHY DOES SPINAL FUNCTION MATTER?
There are 24 movable segments called vertebrae that make up your spine. Each one has to support your body’s weight and protect the delicate nerves that make up the nervous system. The central nervous system is the master controller, responsible for all of your bodily functions. It also plays a crucial role in adapting to external and internal influences, which profoundly impacts your ability to stay healthy. The nerves of the central nervous system pass through the vertebrae via holes called foramen. When the spinal segments are healthy and moving properly, the muscles, tendons, ligaments and nerves can properly do their jobs. When trauma, injury or irritation occurs, muscles get tight and tense, spinal joints get restricted and nerves get irritated, which can cause a variety of problems throughout the body.

CORRECTING SPINAL DYSFUNCTION
Dr. Davenport performs a wide variety of techniques, using the most effective methods for each patient.WHAT IS THE DIVERSIFIED TECHNIQUE?

There are several types of techniques used in chiropractic care. The most common is the diversified technique or more commonly called the manual adjustment or spinal manipulation. It’s a hands-on technique where the chiropractor works directly with the body to restore movement and function to the spine and joints. The diversified technique involves using a short (low-amplitude), quick (high-velocity) thrust over one restricted joint at a time. The benefits of this type of adjustment:

Restore spinal segment motion
Reduce muscle spasms and tension
Enhance proper joint biomechanics

WHAT IS THE DROP TABLE METHOD?
Dr. Davenport also uses the drop table method. For certain conditions or those who prefer not to be manually adjusted, the drop table method is a great alternative. This technique uses a unique table with sections that can be lifted a few inches and dropped down. In contrast to manual adjusting, the movement is low-velocity with the assistance of gravity. It’s ideal for:

Acute/chronic low back pain
Hip adjustments
Kyphotic neck curve (“hunchback”)
Children

CHIROPRACTIC CARE FOR OPTIMAL HEALTH
The benefits of chiropractic care go beyond pain management. Feeling healthy is much more than the absence of pain. A total wellness approach, including chiropractic care, can help you function at your best.

Similar to getting dental check-ups and cleanings to keep your teeth healthy and help prevent issues before they arise, regular chiropractic visits and a healthy lifestyle can catch small problems before they become bigger ones. Consistent treatments help prevent more aggressive measures in the future, like invasive surgery and pain-management drugs. We want to help you get the most out of an active, healthy lifestyle, keeping your body strong while preventing illnesses and injuries.

CHIROPRACTIC CARE FOR ACUTE AND CHRONIC PAIN
What is the difference between acute and chronic pain?

Chronic pain is the type of pain that endures — it doesn’t come and go. Pain that lasts longer than a few months is considered chronic. Many times this type of issue is the result of nerve damage or arthritis/joint degeneration.

Acute pain comes on suddenly and is usually a result of an accident, a sports injury, or perhaps a fall resulting in a sprain or twisted joint.

We don’t think you have to put up with pain or discomfort and want you to get back to living a pain-free life. Dr. Davenport will perform a complete evaluation of your pain and its cause and work with you to determine the best treatment course.

CHIROPRACTIC CARE FOR SPORTS INJURY REHABILITATION
We want you to be able to perform at your best. Chiropractic care isn’t limited to back issues. It can also help prevent injuries to your joints, neck, shoulders, knees, and ankles. All parts of your body work better when your joints are functioning properly. Your body can experience decreased inflammation and reduced muscle tension, allowing the nervous system to function at its best.

CHIROPRACTIC CARE FOR SPORTS INJURY REHABILITATION
Imagine being able to heal faster after a sports injury and get back to doing what you love sooner? Instead of masking the pain and inflammation with medication, which can lead to further risk and damage, we help athletes get back muscle and joints moving well and allow the body to heal faster, naturally.

At Pain & Injury Clinic of Utah, we work with athletes to review their symptoms, perform a full evaluation, and create a customized plan to get them back on their feet, feeling good, and able to perform at their best again.
